Jury tells Nikola whistleblower made $600k profit from short sale

Fraud charges against the electric truck maker by a former Nikola Corp. contractor who helped spark a criminal investigation told a federal jury he made $600,000 from short sellers’ reports on the company.

Paul Lackey, an engineer with electric drive systems company EVDrive who provided Nikola with contract work, was questioned by the defense at the criminal trial of Nikola founder Trevor Milton. He said he provided information to short-seller Hindenburg Research in exchange for a portion of the profits it made from short-selling the company’s stock.
