Google announces September 2022 core algorithm update

Google announced a core algorithm update on September 12, 2022. While some corners of the internet were noticeably muted, the response from the search community was generally positive.

The official Google Search Center account posted an update announcement on Twitter

While algorithms are always changing, core algorithm updates tend to be more dramatic.

Expect algorithm changes to be seen in the coming days as these changes roll out to data centers.

There is no confirmation yet how this will affect search results (SERPs) around the world and in different languages.

Presumably this will affect search results in most languages ​​since these updates are more prevalent.

Will core updates expand useful content updates?

Danny Sullivan recently responded to some questions on Twitter that the effects of useful content updates may become more apparent during core algorithm updates.

However, this seems like a blanket statement, and I don’t think it means that core updates will be more visible in core updates.

That is, useful content is part of the core of the core algorithm and runs continuously so that new websites can be affected by an algorithm component called useful content updates (HCU).

Unless Google makes it clear that useful content updates are a major part of this core update, it’s probably too early to say it will be amplified in the September core update.

Despite some early predictions that HCU will change everything, the search community is now shrugging it off.

Some have expressed their expectation that the HCU will return to be more powerful with the core update.

But I disagree.

Back on August 19th, I posted comments on my Facebook feed based on past performance updates from other goals.

Comment updates and various spam updates haven’t shaken the industry. The impact is largely limited to the most visible offenders.

Because HCU is also targeted, and specific bad cases are listed in the announcement, I don’t think HCU will affect general websites.

I wrote at the time:

“Google’s previous series of review updates only seemed to capture pages that were really noticeable. So based on how these updates performed, my expectations for useful updates were lowered.

So I think it’s going to be like the old Humphrey Bogart movie “Casablanca” when the authorities go out and round up the usual suspects. “

The best thing to do now is to be alert to any changes in the search console, but not react.

Search results are likely to bounce back in the next few weeks.

Let the search results stabilize before trying to understand it.
