If you’re looking to make some extra money or start a part-time job, selling items online may be the answer. Chances are you have something around your house that you no longer use – something that other people might spend a lot of money on.

Many websites and apps allow you to list used items for sale – here are the best apps sell things And make the most money in the process.

1.OfferUp

You can sell just about anything on OfferUp, from toys your kids don’t want to used cars. OfferUp has a website and mobile app to easily list your items for sale. It’s a free marketplace, so with a few exceptions, you don’t have to pay to list or sell items.

On average, OfferUp-promoted listings get 14 times more views than regular listings. If someone pays you via OfferUp, you can receive your money for free via regular bank transfer. If you activate its Quick Deposit feature for a fee of 50 cents or 1%, whichever is higher, you can receive your funds immediately after settlement.

2. Facebook Marketplace

With Facebook Marketplace, you can sell items for local pickup or offer delivery. There are no fees for listing or selling local pickup items paid for in cash. Accepting payments using apps such as Venmo and PayPal may incur fees. Shipping costs for shipping items will be paid by the seller or buyer in accordance with the agreed terms of sale.

Certain products are prohibited from being sold through Facebook Marketplace, so please review Facebook’s terms and policies before posting anything for sale.

Tips for using Facebook Marketplace

Buyers are more likely to believe the sale is legitimate when the photos of the item are original rather than professional photos taken from an online store. Facebook recommends that you let buyers review any item they’ve purchased from you to make sure they want it before you accept payment.

3. Poshmark

Poshmark is best known as a platform for selling designer clothing, shoes, and accessories, but you can also list items that fall into specific categories, including electronics, home decor, pet products, and cosmetics.

There is no fee to list your items for sale, but Poshmark does charge a fee per sale. If your item sells for less than $15, Poshmark will charge $2.95. Anything $15 and above will incur a 20% fee. Your earnings accumulate in your account, from where you can transfer it to your bank.

Tips for using Poshmark

People can follow your Poshmark store, so if you list similar items frequently, you may get repeat sales. You can also increase sales opportunities by offering discounts to customers who purchase multiple items from your store.

Poshmark does restrict the sale of certain items, including:

  • Items you list as “inspired by” brand names
  • Medical Products/Medical Claims

  • electrical appliances

4. Mercary

You can sell almost anything you own on Mercari, with the exception of offensive, illegal and related items that are not allowed by most selling platforms. There are no in-person meetings, so plan to ship your items to buyers. Listing your items for sale is free, and Mercari charges a 10% fee on all sales. Mercari charges an additional 2.9% payment processing fee, plus 30 cents per sale. Essentially, you’ll pay 12.9% plus 30 cents per sale.

On November 1, the payment processing fee will increase to 2.9%, plus 50 cents per sale.

Additional fees for Mercari

Payments accrue in your Mercari account for transfer to your bank account. As long as you transfer $10 or more at a time, you won’t incur any fees. If you transfer less than $10, Mercari will charge $2. If for some reason the payment is returned to Mercari, you will be charged a $2 fee.

Beware of scammers. If someone asks you to make a sale outside of the site where your item is listed, say no. Mercari’s terms prohibit this. Mercari offers up to $200 in shipping protection, all prepaid labels and Mercari Local deliveries may be lost or damaged.

Regular transfers of your earnings to an external account may take a few business days, but you can pay $2 to transfer Instant Pay to your bank. You can initiate instant payment transfers for up to $500 per month. Keep in mind that even if the transfer is “instant”, it may take up to 30 minutes to see the balance in your bank account.

5. Organize

Decluttr works a little differently than other sales sites. Instead of selling from person to person, you sell to Decluttr and their team handles the rest. Decluttr might be a good choice for your used books, tech and LEGO branded bricks.

To sell an item, select the appropriate category from the Decluttr website and search for your specific item. You can search for books by barcode, brand name or ISBN. Decluttr will ask questions about the condition of your item and provide a price.

If you accept, you can print the label and ship the item to Decluttr. You can drop items to UPS for easy shipping. Once your item arrives, the Decluttr team will inspect it and payment should be made to you within 24 hours. You can choose to receive payments via direct deposit or PayPal.

While Decluttr does not charge any fees, shipping costs and handling charges are included in the price you provide. You may earn more on other sites. The biggest benefit of Decluttr is that your sales happen quickly. You don’t have to wait for the right person to buy your item.

6. eBay

eBay is one of the founders of the concept of buying and selling items online – a digital marketplace that dates back to 1995, when it launched as AuctionWeb. According to Statista, as of July 2022, eBay is the most visited online shopping site after Amazon.

You can sell just about anything on eBay, from sneakers to watches, electronics to toys. Listing your first 250 items per month is free for most categories, but you’ll pay a final value fee, which is a percentage of the sale amount, and 30 cents per order when your item sells. When your item sells, eBay Transfer funds to your linked checking account or Visa or Mastercard debit card.

Tips for using eBay

According to eBay, the perfect listing has four elements: a descriptive title, a clear item description, high-quality photos, and a competitive price. If you’re not sure what price an item should be priced for, eBay recommends that you check prices for similar items.

One of the advantages of using eBay over other platforms is that you can make offers instead of selling at a fixed price. This allows buyers to make offers for your item, and you can choose to accept or reject them or make a counter-offer.

7. 5 miles

The 5miles app is another option for selling locally, especially to people within 5 miles of your current location. In addition to selling things, you can also sell services, post jobs, and even post garage sales. You can sell almost anything on the platform that you can sell on other apps, and most items are free, but there is a 10% fee for items sold.

You can allow users to pay through the app or pay you directly. 5miles claims that using an online payment system can increase your chances of selling that item by 30%.
